Advanced data nets are when the density and layering of content is so overpowering as to hide the underlying links that bind the networks together.1 At that stage the networks become a conceptual construct rather than an organized device. When individual data points develop tension and connection with each other, the resulting structure becomes an entity in its own right-the network.2 It is by doing this that the designer is able to show cause, context or collaboration. Theses relationships vary in strength, as line weights, hierarchy, and locus are used to filter, and refine connections, distributing points through the interlaced assertion. The concept of linking concepts reveals a new level of meaning through association.3 |
